13 hours and 38 minutes

Performance in which my collaborator (Colin Lievens) and myself watched ice casts of boobs melt until fully gone. Colin is trans and the boob casts are from their chest. For as long as I’ve known them, they have been waiting to have surgery on. Whilst watching the ice melt we talked about both of our experiences of being trans, the significance of top-surgery, and also trauma around waiting. We had expected this this to only last a few hours, but it ended up taking 13 hours and 38 minutes, starting at about 12:25pm and ending after 2 am.

video stills, Jo and Colin mostly sit at a table, sometimes they stand up, sometimes they are crying, sometimes the other Joe comes in. The light changes from daylight to darkness to house lights, eventually Colin puts their shoes in and Jo is left …

various photos of the melting boob-shaped ice layed out in a grid formation with the words “I will wait with you” hand-written across the bottom

You are waiting
We don’t know how long for
So I wait with you
It takes longer than we expect
Impatient and restless
Fed up with the situation and each other
We keep waiting
We are counting how long
And we’re waiting
It is almost over
And when it finally is
We are not relieved but more glad to finally have an end to the waiting
